While I'm not actually an alumni grad of the program, after 25 years with OSF and UICOMP EM Residency and 21 years as Assistant/Associate Program Director, I certainly feel I'm a part of the program. Being here as long as I have says two things; I've been involved with the education of 88.5% of all the graduates of our program (209 of 236 grads) and I like it here!

The past couple years have been amazing, both personally and professionally. On the personal side, Jodi and I (mostly Jodi) feel we've successfully raised our "children" to adults and now we're officially empty-nesters. Our youngest daughter is finishing a master's program in biomedical engineering at Marquette, our son is working as a retirement/investment advisor in East Peoria, our second older daughter is in a radiology residency in Charleston, SC and our oldest daughter is working at the Peoria Civic Center in the Events Department. Jodi and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary this year. Wow, time flies!!!

Professionally it's also been an exciting couple of years. On March 31, 2014 the UICOMP Department of Emergency Medicine was officially approved by the Illinois Board of Trustees, making EM the first new academic department at UICOMP in decades. Functionally we are now an independent department in UICOMP and I was honored to be selected as the first Department Chair. It's been exciting and challenging to build the infrastructure of a new department and working with our great faculty, staff, UICOMP and OSF we will continue to improve and advance our program and emergency medicine into the future.

FYI - Here are some numbers:
86,000 - OSF SFMC ED patient census
58 - Non-EM residents rotating in ED annually
41 - Medical students rotating in M4 ED elective annually
37 - Emergency Medicine Residents 2015-2016
9 - Published peer-reviewed research papers the past year
3 - OSF hospital EDs staffed by EM faculty and sites for EM resident education

The last bit of news is we are excited to be planning our first Alumni Reunion since 2008! SAVE THE DATE: August 12-13, 2016

Enough about us, how about you? We hope to hear from you so if you can, take a couple minutes to reply on our EM Residency website. Let us know what's been going on with you. Also it would be great to see you August 12-13, 2016!

Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
