UICOMP EM Interest Group
The Emergency Medicine Interest Group of UICOMP seeks to build awareness within the student body of issues related to emergency medicine, both as a career and as a community service. We are student run and faculty mentored, and our doors are open to anyone who is interested regardless of future career plans. Welcome!
Upcoming events:
For more information about upcoming events, please contact Felix Huang, [email protected]
Ultrasound Course:
The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at UICOMP hosts a biannual 2-week ultrasound course for residents.
Medical students at UICOMP have the unique opportunity to participate in this course and learn the invaluable skill of bedside ultrasound.
Students are invited to attend the course and have the chance to be scanned themselves!
Medical students sign up for scan labs that take place during the 2-week course and receive a free, educational ultrasound.
The next ultrasound course will be held in January so stay tuned for more information.
Students interested in participating or with questions should contact: Felix Huang, [email protected] for more details.
EM Shadowing:
The EM shadowing program is designed to introduce second and third year medical students to emergency medicine early in their medical school training.
Meet physicians and get a sense for whether you might want to spend your career in the ED.
It does not require a formal commitment and you are encouraged to stop by the department whenever you have a free hour or two.
For those interested in working with a specific doctor or who want to arrange to start and work a shift with a physician who likes to teach, you may contact UICOMP EM Resident, Stephanie Kok, skok920@gmail and she will give you contact and schedule information.
Changing the Future of Emergency Medicine:
Life Flight, CPR and Music, and Car Seat Safety are just a few of the projects that UICOMP medical students are working on right now.
Help change the future of emergency medicine by getting involved with current research projects in the field of Emergency Medicine.
If you’re interested, please contact Chris Verdick, [email protected] for information about working with residents and attending in the emergency medicine department at OSF St. Francis.
If you would like to join EMIG's listserve or have any comments/suggestions for the EMIG webpage, e-mail Felix Huang, [email protected].
